Time to go Lighter

So for Halloween I bought Revlon 18′ Hair Extensions from Sally’s, but since the hair was in a box and wrapped in a dark hairnet I accidentally bought a shade much lighter than I could really wear with my natural hair color.

So I improvised. I clipped the extensions across the top of my head, a couple inches from the front of my hair line and tucked my hair all up in the netting and wore a headband to cover the line and clips.

Everyone seemed to absolutely love it! I’ve never gotten compliments on my hair, ever. It’s dark, frizzy, curly and I loath it, possibly more than it loathes me (thanks Dad for your hair BTW.)

I clearly can’t make my hair long like that overnight but I’d love to achieve the color. So I’ve been scoping around to see if there are any at home treatments that I could try and I have read good things about the Garnier Nutrise line of at home products.

This post on NewBeauty.com Lighten dark brown hair gave a very positive review about the Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Nutri-Browns coloring. Upon checking the Garnier Nutrisse site and reading through their hair color FAQ’s I read that they actually recommend you use their highlighting product before coloring to get a salon-like multi-tonal effect. they’ve also got great videos for their coloring and highlighting systems which makes me feel like I could actually handle it, so i might give a shot later today. I am nervous about coloring my all my hair by myself, cause it’s thick and kind-of unruly. Everytime I’ve ever colored my hair before I’ve gone to a salon. So I might just pick up the highlighting kit and see how that works out. I fear that if I go to a salon for such a subutle change I won’t get what I really want, I’ll report back about how this works out!

UPDATE

Self-help highlights failed. I am not skilled enough. Maybe if I had a friend help me it would have gone better. Instead I shelled out the $100 for cut and foils at my salon. the girl scolded me for trying it on my own but whatever, it was only $8.

Overall this is not recommended unless you are skilled or have the spare cash to go get it fixed when you screw up.
